Job Description

Jamie Benway with Robert Half is looking for an experienced Controller to provide financial leadership for a mission-driven non-profit organization in Oregon. This role will oversee core accounting operations, strengthen reporting accuracy, and support sound decision-making across the organization. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, steady leadership, and the ability to manage a reliable month-end close process in a collaborative environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead daily accounting activities and guide the organization’s financial operations with accuracy and consistency
  • Direct the month-end close process, ensuring timelines are met and financial results are thoroughly reviewed
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and supporting documentation for leadership and board-level review
  • Maintain internal controls and accounting procedures that promote compliance, transparency, and effective stewardship of funds
  • Supervise and mentor finance staff, setting clear expectations and supporting growth within the team
  • Partner with organizational leaders to develop budgets, monitor performance, and provide practical financial insight for planning
  • Coordinate audits and assist with external reporting requirements by organizing records and responding to requests efficiently
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and strengthen the effectiveness of financial processes

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in a Controller or senior-level finance leadership role
  • Strong background in accounting operations, financial reporting, and oversight of month-end close activities
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and support finance team members in a detail-oriented setting
  • Solid understanding of internal controls, budgeting, and standard accounting practices
  • Experience working in a non-profit environment or familiarity with non-profit financial management is preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with careful attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders
