A successful biotech entrepreneur is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the financial operations of a sophisticated single-family office. This is a highly visible, hands-on role responsible for managing the accounting, financial reporting, investment accounting, and tax coordination across multiple entities and investment vehicles. The ideal candidate is a CPA with a strong foundation in accounting and tax, experience supporting ultra-high-net-worth individuals or family offices, and a deep understanding of investment accounting, capital gains and losses, and complex entity structures.
Job Responsibility
Oversee all accounting operations for the family office and affiliated entities, including LLCs, partnerships, trusts, and holding companies
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and consolidated reporting
Manage investment accounting, including cost basis tracking, realized and unrealized capital gains and losses, portfolio reconciliations, and performance reporting
Monitor and report capital gains, capital loss carryforwards, and tax implications related to investment activity
Coordinate tax planning and compliance with external CPAs and tax advisors, including estimated tax payments, K-1 reporting, trust reporting, and year-end tax packages
Oversee cash management, banking relationships, budgeting, forecasting, and liquidity planning
Reconcile brokerage, custodial, and alternative investment accounts
Coordinate with investment advisors, legal counsel, banks, and other professional service providers
Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and financial reporting processes
Support the principal with financial analysis, special projects, and strategic initiatives while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality
Requirements
CPA PREFERRED
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
10+ years of progressive accounting experience
Prior experience in a single or multi-family office, private investment office, private equity, hedge fund, wealth management, or other complex investment environment preferred
Strong knowledge of investment accounting, capital gains and losses, cost basis reporting, partnership and trust accounting, individual and entity tax concepts, multi-entity consolidations
Experience working with high-net-worth or ultra-high-net-worth individuals is highly desirable
Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting software
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism
