We are looking for an experienced Controller to join our team in Portland, Oregon on a contract basis. This role requires an experienced and detail-oriented individual with a strong background in corporate accounting and financial management, particularly within project-based industries such as engineering or construction. The ideal candidate will bring leadership expertise and the ability to oversee complex financial processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Job Responsibility:
Lead monthly and quarterly financial close processes, ensuring all reporting is completed accurately and on time
Manage and oversee accrual-based accounting for multiple entities, providing detailed financial reports across various levels
Supervise and mentor a team, including training and preparing an Assistant Controller for future responsibilities
Handle complex financial transactions, year-end budgeting, and ad hoc financial requests
Ensure compliance with all accounting standards and regulations within the detail-oriented services or construction industries
Develop and implement best practices for financial reporting and operational efficiency
Collaborate with stakeholders to provide insights on financial performance and forecasts
Review and approve financial statements, ensuring they align with organizational goals and industry standards
Address multi-site financial management challenges, delivering solutions tailored to each entity's needs
Support project-based accounting initiatives tied to engineering and construction projects
Requirements:
Minimum of 12 years of experience in accounting and financial management, including at least 5 years in a leadership role
Expertise in corporate accounting, particularly accrual-based accounting and financial statement preparation
Proven ability to manage multi-entity financial reporting and complex transactions
Familiarity with project-based industries such as engineering, construction, or detail-oriented services
Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with experience training team members for advanced roles
Ability to handle year-end budgeting, financial forecasting, and ad hoc financial tasks
Experience with month-end close processes and delivering accurate financial reports
Knowledge of accounting standards and regulations related to multi-site operations in the engineering or construction sectors
