We are looking for a Controller to lead the financial operations of our nonprofit organization based in Allentown, Pennsylvania. In this senior-level role, you will oversee accounting functions and ensure compliance with nonprofit standards, while driving financial integrity and supporting strategic decision-making. This position is critical to maintaining accurate reporting, strengthening internal controls, and contributing to the organization's mission.
Job Responsibility:
Supervise all accounting processes, including payroll, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger management, and month-end and year-end closings
Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring adherence to nonprofit accounting standards and organizational policies
Manage fund accounting operations, including tracking restricted and unrestricted funds, grants, and donor-related financial reporting
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including nonprofit-specific filings such as Form 990
Lead the annual audit process, acting as the primary liaison with external auditors to ensure a smooth and successful audit
Develop and implement robust internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard financial assets
Collaborate with leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, and effective cash flow management
Provide financial insights and reporting to senior leadership and the Board of Directors, aiding strategic decision-making
Mentor and oversee accounting staff to foster growth and operational efficiency
Partner with program leaders to ensure accurate tracking of financial metrics and cost allocations
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field
At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles
Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and prior experience in nonprofit financial operations
Proficiency in fund accounting, grant compliance, and donor reporting processes
Demonstrated ability to manage audits and comply with regulatory requirements
Exceptional analytical and organizational skills with a focus on problem-solving
Ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders
High ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining financial integrity
