Job Description:

A leading professional services organization based in Washington, DC is seeking a Controller to oversee financial operations, ensure compliance, and drive strategic decisions. This role involves financial reporting, accounting operations, budgeting, audit support, team leadership, and strategic planning.

Job Responsibility:

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports
  • perform in-depth financial analysis and provide recommendations to executive leadership
  • manage all day-to-day accounting functions, including month-end close, deferred revenue, WIP, accruals, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, budgeting, and general ledger activities
  • ensure compliance with GAAP standards and implement best practices for internal controls
  • lead and coordinate the annual budgeting process
  • develop financial forecasts and provide ongoing monitoring and variance analysis
  • serve as the primary liaison for external auditors and regulatory agencies
  • maintain adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations
  • supervise and mentor the accounting team
  • lead strategic initiatives to improve department workflows, systems, and processes
  • collaborate closely with senior leadership to align financial strategies with business goals

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA certification strongly preferred
  • minimum of 7–10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including 2+ years in a leadership or managerial role
  • prior experience in professional services, consulting, or similar industries preferred
  • proficiency in financial management systems and ERP software (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, or QuickBooks)
  • advanced knowledge of Excel
  • strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial information
  • proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
