We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Controller to join our team in Maryville, Illinois. As part of a family-owned and growing company specializing in heavy civil and transportation construction, this long-term contract position offers an opportunity to manage financial operations and support project success. The ideal candidate will excel in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance, and collaborating with various departments to optimize processes and outcomes.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare and submit Time and Materials (T& M) and progress billings for multiple construction projects
Ensure vendor invoices are accurately reviewed, processed, and entered for project-related expenses
Coordinate and track Certificates of Insurance (COIs) and lien waivers from subcontractors and vendors to ensure compliance
Lead biweekly meetings with the executive leadership team to discuss accounts receivable and collections strategies
Maintain and reconcile accounts by entering cash receipts and ensuring accurate financial records
Draft and manage subcontract agreements, tracking changes and amendments in collaboration with the project management team
Import project budgets into the accounting system and establish cost codes for effective tracking
Monitor job costs and performance against budgets, working closely with project managers to address discrepancies
Provide financial reporting and reconciliation in line with state transportation department requirements
Ensure compliance with local regulations by managing payment and waiver submissions to relevant databases
Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably within the construction industry
Proficiency in document control and scanning processes, including compiling and organizing financial documents
Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and job costing
Experience with certified payroll reporting and compliance requirements
Ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, estimators, and field staff
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
Strong communication skills for interacting with internal teams and external stakeholders
Knowledge of accounting software and tools relevant to construction project management
