We are looking for a highly skilled Controller to lead and oversee all aspects of operational accounting functions in our Richmond, Virginia office. This role requires a detail-oriented individual who is adept at financial reporting, compliance, and process improvement while managing a dynamic accounting team. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in inventory and cost accounting, financial analysis, and regulatory compliance to support the company’s continued growth.
Job Responsibility:
Direct operational accounting activities, including purchasing, payroll, accounts payable, and month-end close processes
Ensure timely and accurate completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings
Develop and enforce strong financial controls and accounting procedures across all operational functions
Collaborate with operational teams to align project costing, inventory management, and revenue recognition with company policies
Manage inventory accounting processes, including valuation methodologies and obsolescence reserves
Supervise inventory counts and ensure proper reconciliation with financial statements
Oversee compliance with regulatory requirements, such as property taxes, business registrations, and sales tax filings
Support internal and external audits, addressing inquiries and implementing resolutions
Identify risks and opportunities within financial reporting and recommend enhancements to processes
Mentor and train accounting staff to strengthen technical expertise and operational efficiency
Requirements:
Proven experience in operational accounting, including month-end close and financial statement preparation
Strong knowledge of inventory and cost accounting methodologies
Expertise in regulatory compliance and multi-state tax filings
Proficiency in general ledger management, journal entries, and bank reconciliations
Ability to analyze financial results and identify trends or opportunities for improvement
Experience in leading audits and implementing financial controls
Skilled in training and developing accounting teams
Advanced proficiency in accounting systems and financial reporting tools
