Job Description

The Controller will lead day‑to‑day accounting operations and serve as a key partner to the Director of Finance. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong job cost controls, and timely insights into operational performance across residential construction projects. This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring deep experience in residential construction accounting, job costing, and month‑end close.

Job Responsibility

  • Own the full‑cycle accounting function, including general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, inventory, and compliance
  • Lead the monthly close process, including balance sheet reconciliations and financial statement preparation
  • Oversee job cost accounting, WIP schedules, and margin analysis across residential projects
  • Ensure accurate revenue recognition and cost tracking aligned with residential construction operations
  • Prepare and review monthly financial reporting packages for the Director of Finance and leadership
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
  • Coordinate audits, tax filings, and external reporting requirements
  • Partner closely with operations, project managers, and leadership to provide financial insight
  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff
  • Support ERP optimization and process improvement initiatives

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or CMA preferred)
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with direct residential construction or homebuilding experience
  • Strong working knowledge of job costing, WIP, and construction financial reporting
  • Proven experience owning month‑end close and financial statements
  • Experience with construction ERP systems (Sage, Viewpoint, Procore, NetSuite, etc.) a plus
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving abilities
  • Detail‑oriented with the ability to operate in a fast‑paced, operational environment
