We are looking for a skilled Controller to manage and oversee the financial operations of our organization based in Rockland, Massachusetts. This role requires expertise in construction accounting, union payroll processes, and job-costing to ensure seamless financial management and compliance. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with ownership, project managers, and union representatives to drive financial accuracy and support the company’s growth.
Job Responsibility:
Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and job-cost tracking
Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Supervise work-in-progress schedules and ensure proper revenue recognition
Coordinate audits, manage banking relationships, and oversee bonding requirements
Handle budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management to support financial planning
Oversee weekly certified payroll for union employees, ensuring compliance with union benefit and fringe contribution requirements
Maintain compliance with prevailing wage, certified payroll, and Davis-Bacon regulations for public projects
Monitor job costs and project profitability while collaborating with project managers on change orders, billing, and closeout
Implement and maintain internal controls to enhance efficiency in purchasing, inventory, and subcontracting
Manage insurance audits and ensure adherence to tax and regulatory requirements
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
At least 5–7 years of progressive experience in accounting, within the construction or mechanical contracting industry
Proficiency with construction accounting software, such as Spectrum, Sage 300, or QuickBooks Enterprise Contractor
Strong knowledge of union payroll & how union rates impact accounting processes
Strong understanding of job-cost tracking and project profitability analysis
