Robert Half is seeking an experienced Controller to support the CFO in strengthening and organizing the financial operations of a private family office in Glen Cove (Nassau County). This role will focus on addressing historical accounting gaps, improving processes, and establishing timely and accurate financial reporting. This is an immediate, high-impact long term assignment.
Job Responsibility:
Partner with the CFO to clean up and organize financial records across multiple entities
Maintain and update accounting records within QuickBooks
Support and drive a timely and accurate month-end close process
Identify and resolve historical discrepancies, unreconciled accounts, and data inconsistencies
Assist with federal and state tax filings, including addressing any outstanding or prior-year items
Ensure proper roll-up and consolidation for reporting and tax purposes
Perform account reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance
Collaborate with leadership to enhance processes, controls, and reporting cadence
Prepare schedules and support documentation for external accountants and advisors
Requirements:
5+ years of progressive accounting experience in a multi-entity private company or family office environment
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
CPA preferred
Proficiency and strong hands-on experience with QuickBooks and Excel
Proven ability to clean up and stabilize accounting records
Experience managing or supporting month-end close
Working knowledge of federal and state tax compliance including K-1s
Strong understanding of general ledger, reconciliations, consolidations, and financial reporting
Ability to operate independently with a strong sense of urgency and accountability
