Collee McAuliffe at Robert Half is looking for a highly skilled Controller to lead the accounting and financial reporting functions of our construction company in Campbell, California. This role requires expertise in project accounting, job cost management, revenue recognition, and compliance, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial data. The ideal candidate will work closely with project managers, operations teams, and executive leadership to provide insights that drive informed decision-making.
Job Responsibility:
Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting
Prepare comprehensive financial statements and reports in compliance with industry standards and company policies
Oversee job cost accounting, including budgets, forecasts, margin analysis, and cost-to-complete evaluations
Monitor project profitability and proactively identify financial risks or variances
Supervise progress billing, retainage, lien waivers, and resolve billing discrepancies in collaboration with operations
Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering attention to detail and establishing scalable workflows
Ensure compliance with audits, tax filings, bonding, and regulatory requirements
Optimize the use of construction accounting systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy in reporting
Review and approve change orders, contract modifications, and cost allocations
Collaborate with external auditors and lenders to ensure smooth financial operations
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
At least 8 years of progressive accounting experience, with a focus on the construction industry
In-depth knowledge of work-in-progress (WIP) and construction accounting principles
Proficiency in financial statement preparation and job costing methodologies
Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of managing and developing teams
Hands-on experience with accounting systems such as QuickBooks and other construction-related software
Familiarity with bonded projects and lender reporting requirements
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills suitable for working in a fast-paced environment
