Job Description:

A real estate and hospitality organization in the Charlotte region is seeking a Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and providing leadership across property‑level and corporate accounting activities. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in real estate financials, strong technical accounting skills, and the ability to partner closely with operations and leadership.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead the accounting function, including general ledger management, month‑end close, and preparation of financial statements
  • Oversee property‑level accounting, including reconciliations, tenant billing, lease accounting, and revenue recognition
  • Manage cash flow forecasting, capital expenditure tracking, and project‑level financial reporting
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and industry‑specific accounting requirements
  • Review and analyze financial results, providing insights and recommendations to leadership
  • Coordinate annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes across properties and corporate operations
  • Partner with asset management, development, and operations teams to support financial decision‑making
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions
  • Implement process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and reporting quality
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff of 6+ individuals, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA preferred
  • Strong understanding of real estate accounting, hospitality, or multi-location/entity industry
  • Proven experience managing full‑cycle accounting and financial reporting
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and Excel
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work cross‑functionally and support both strategic and day‑to‑day financial needs
