Job Description

We are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations for a growing business in New York. This role is well suited for a detail-oriented finance professional who thrives in a smaller-company environment, oversees a lean team, and partners closely with leadership on key financial priorities. The Controller will manage core accounting functions, support operational decision-making, and help guide financial processes within a manufacturing-oriented organization undergoing business evolution.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility in a Controller or senior accounting role
  • Strong hands-on experience with month-end close, general ledger activity, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Working knowledge of sales tax compliance, including New York sales tax filings and order-level tax calculation processes
  • Familiarity with payroll administration for both hourly and salaried employees
  • Paychex experience is a plus
  • Experience calculating commissions and accurately integrating those payments into payroll
  • Ability to manage and mentor a small team while remaining highly involved in daily accounting operations
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with business owners or senior leadership in a small-company setting
  • High attention to detail, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
