Our client is looking for an experienced Controller to lead financial operations and support the overall administrative needs of our business in Keene, New Hampshire. This role combines hands-on accounting leadership with oversight of human resources activities, making it well suited for someone who thrives in a dynamic, small-company environment. The ideal candidate will bring construction industry, WIP and job cost experience.
Job Responsibility:
Direct core accounting activities, including payables, receivables, contract invoicing, payroll coordination, and the accurate recording of financial transactions
Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes by preparing journal entries, reviewing account activity, and maintaining reliable financial records
Produce financial statements and management reports, analyze account balances, and help ensure adherence to reporting standards and internal controls
Reconcile bank and investment accounts, monitor liquidity, and prepare cash flow reporting and forecasts to support business planning
Coordinate quarterly tax filings and compliance reporting while serving as the primary internal contact for annual audit preparation with the external accounting firm
Develop and maintain job cost tracking and reporting for construction-related projects to support operational and financial decision-making
Assess financial exposure and recommend practical steps to reduce risk across company operations
Oversee human resources administration, including hiring support, employee relations, benefits coordination, and administration of retirement and profit-sharing programs
Manage office administration, insurance renewals, and operational purchasing support for vehicles and equipment in partnership with company leadership
Work closely with ownership to promote a safe, compliant, and productive workplace environment
Requirements:
7+ years of experience in accounting, finance, or controllership roles with broad responsibility for financial reporting and daily operations
Strong background in month-end close procedures, including journal entry preparation, account review, and financial statement production
Experience overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and compliance-related reporting
Knowledge of job costing, preferably in a construction or project-based business environment
Familiarity with annual audit support and coordination with external accounting firms
Ability to analyze financial results, manage cash flow forecasting, and identify business risks
