Job Description

Our client, a growing multi-entity construction company, is looking for a Controller who knows how to keep the numbers tight, the cash moving, and the operation running clean. This isn't a back-office-only role. They need someone who can get into the day-to-day, understand how the business really works, and bring strong financial leadership to an operation with multiple companies, moving parts, job costs, payroll demands, and union reporting. If you've worked in construction, manufacturing, or fabrication and know the difference between just closing the books and actually helping run a business, this role will get your attention. They're looking for someone who can build structure, improve processes, and keep financial operations sharp while supporting long-term growth.

Job Responsibility

  • Handle daily and monthly bank reconciliations and monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Review weekly payroll and process one smaller company payroll each week
  • Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable, including putting together weekly A/P budgets
  • Manage the general ledger, including preparing and posting journal entries
  • Calculate and remit 401(k) deferrals weekly
  • Submit union dues and union reporting monthly accurately and on time
  • Oversee WIP schedules, job cost tracking, and project cost analysis
  • Monitor and forecast cash flow so leadership has a clear picture of where the business stands
  • Support the Accounting Manager through month-end close
  • Tighten up and improve financial policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Lead year-end accounting prep for external auditors
  • Supervise and develop payroll and accounting staff as the company continues to grow

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field
  • Strong background in job cost accounting
  • Construction industry experience is strongly preferred
  • Deep understanding of GAAP, internal controls, payroll, and cash management
  • Experience improving accounting processes and putting stronger policies in place
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to solve problems without a lot of hand-holding
  • Someone who can be both hands-on in the weeds and steady at the leadership level

What we offer

  • Medical, vision, dental, and life and disability insurance
  • 401(k) plan
