Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Controller to remotely join our team in Tacoma, Washington on a contract basis. This role involves supporting financial operations within a marine terminal environment, including budgeting, forecasting, and overseeing capital projects. The position offers the opportunity to work onsite for 3-4 days a week, with potential for remote work depending on specific industry experience.

Job Responsibility:

Oversee full cycle accounting processes, including month-end close and financial statement preparation
Develop and manage detailed budgets and forecasts to support organizational financial goals
Conduct in-depth financial modeling and analytics to evaluate vessel operations and container costs
Collaborate with executive leadership to create and present financial reports and projections
Monitor and manage capital expenditure projects, ensuring accurate costing and vendor coordination
Support refinancing projects and grant-related financial activities to facilitate terminal reconstruction efforts
Partner with purchasing teams to ensure proper budget oversight during project execution
Utilize Oracle and other financial systems to maintain accurate and efficient accounting records
Provide guidance and support to the VP of Accounting to ensure smooth departmental operations
Analyze and review operational volumes and costs, making recommendations for optimization

Requirements:

Proven experience in accounting and finance, with strong expertise in budgeting and forecasting
Advanced analytical skills, including financial modeling and data interpretation
Proficiency in Oracle and Microsoft Excel for financial management and reporting
Familiarity with capital expenditure projects and cost tracking
Ability to manage full cycle accounting tasks, including month-end close processes
Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams
Previous experience in the marine terminal or related industry is highly preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
