We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead the financial and administrative direction of a growing healthcare practice. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with strong accounting expertise who can also provide oversight across operational support functions and help drive organizational performance. The Controller will work closely with executive leadership to strengthen financial controls, support strategic priorities, and ensure the practice operates efficiently across multiple locations.
Job Responsibility
Direct accounting and financial activities, including budgeting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting, journal entries, tax coordination, and safeguarding organizational assets
Provide administrative leadership for key business functions such as information technology, human resources, revenue cycle support, and general operations
Partner with senior leadership to advance strategic goals, improve business performance, and support practice growth across the organization
Establish and monitor processes that promote compliance with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and internal policies
Evaluate workflows, staffing structure, and operational practices to improve productivity, cost management, and overall effectiveness
Build strong working relationships with external advisors and service partners, including legal, banking, accounting, consulting, investment, and marketing contacts
Guide and develop managers and team leads by setting clear expectations, encouraging accountability, and supporting skill development
Travel to practice locations throughout the area to review site operations, maintain alignment, and support multi-site oversight responsibilities
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or a closely related field
At least 7 years of leadership experience in business or financial management within a private physician practice
Demonstrated healthcare industry experience, with ophthalmology or optometry exposure considered an advantage
Strong foundation in accounting principles and financial controls, with the ability to manage detailed reporting and analysis
Effective leadership, communication, and decision-making skills with the ability to influence across departments
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort working with financial systems, practice management platforms, and healthcare technology tools
Ability to travel between offices, work extended hours when needed, and maintain reliable transportation
Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment and perform occasional physical tasks, including lifting up to 25 pounds
