Job Description:

The Staff Accountant / Controller will be responsible for full-cycle accounting and office financial management for a small manufacturing organization. This individual will manage day-to-day accounting operations, month-end close, payroll, and coordination with an external CPA firm. The role also includes oversight of one office staff member and involvement in basic administrative and compliance support. This position reports directly to the Owner.

Job Responsibility:

  • Manage full-cycle accounting, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger
  • Prepare monthly and year-end financial statements
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts
  • Coordinate with external CPA firm on taxes, audits, and year-end reporting
  • Support budgeting, cash flow monitoring, and basic financial analysis
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and audit requirements
  • Handle project billing activities
  • Process payroll for a union and non-union workforce
  • Manage 401(k) administration and related filings
  • Support employee benefits administration and documentation
  • Oversee day-to-day office operations
  • Manage and support one office administrator
  • Maintain organized financial and operational records
  • Act as liaison between ownership, operations, and external partners
  • Support compliance documentation tied to quality certifications and audits

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in full-charge bookkeeping, Staff Accountant, or Controller roles
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles
  • Experience managing accounting operations independently in a small or mid-sized company
  • Payroll experience, including union payroll
  • Experience partnering with external CPA firms
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality
  • Comfort working in a manufacturing or operational environment
  • Proficiency with Epicor ERP and Microsoft Excel

Nice to have:

  • Prior experience within manufacturing, distribution, or regulated environments
  • Experience supporting audits or ISO-aligned documentation
  • Longevity in prior roles and interest in long-term organizational stability
