A growing financial services organization is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations for a portfolio of management company clients within the venture capital and private equity industry. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with sophisticated investment firms while managing client relationships, accounting processes, and a team of accounting professionals.
Job Responsibility
Oversee accounting operations for multiple management company entities and client engagements
Lead the onboarding of new clients, including implementation of accounting systems, workflows, and best practices
Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff, including senior and junior team members
Review financial transactions, journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for accuracy and completeness
Oversee accounts payable, expense management, payroll processing, and related reporting activities
Prepare and deliver monthly and quarterly financial reports to management and stakeholders
Coordinate 1099 reporting and assist with federal, state, and local tax compliance requirements
Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives
Serve as the primary contact for client relationships, ensuring timely communication and exceptional service
Partner with internal teams to reconcile intercompany transactions and resolve accounting discrepancies
Respond to ad hoc financial, operational, and reporting requests from clients and leadership
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
4+ years of accounting experience within public accounting, private industry, or a combination of both
Strong Microsoft Excel and overall Microsoft Office proficiency
Experience with accounting software platforms such as QuickBooks
Excellent communication, relationship management, and client service skills
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
Comfortable working with technology systems and coordinating with IT resources when needed
Nice to have
Experience with Bill.com, expense management platforms, payroll systems, or similar applications is a plus
Prior exposure to venture capital, private equity, fund accounting, family office, or alternative investment environments is highly desirable
