We are looking for a highly skilled Controller to lead our financial operations and contribute to the success of a mission-driven organization in Oakland, California. Job Responsibility:
Lead the finance team, including accountants, payroll, and accounts payable/receivable staff
Develop and implement financial strategies that align with organizational goals
Oversee compliance with fund accounting principles, Single Audit requirements, and other regulatory standards
Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes
Collaborate with leadership to ensure financial stewardship and long-term sustainability
Provide mentorship and guidance to build a high-performing accounting team
Coordinate grant management and reporting to secure and maintain funding for community programs
Utilize multiple accounting platforms, such as Sage Intacct, Yardi, and QuickBooks, to streamline financial processes
Ensure systems and processes are optimized for document control and stakeholder communication
Support initiatives related to affordable housing, early childhood education, and community development
Requirements:
At least 10 years of experience in accounting or finance
Minimum of 5 years in a nonprofit setting preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
Strong expertise in fund accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and Single Audit compliance
Proven ability to manage and mentor teams
Proficiency in accounting platforms such as Sage Intacct, Yardi, and QuickBooks
Excellent communication skills
Passion for social equity and commitment to community impact
Familiarity with grant management and affordable housing initiatives
