We are looking for a Controller to join a non-profit organization in Sacramento, California on a contract basis with the potential for a permanent position. This role will oversee core accounting operations, strengthen financial reporting processes, and provide clear insight into budgeting and cash flow performance. The ideal candidate brings a hands-on approach to financial management and can support accurate documentation, audit readiness, and informed decision-making across the organization.
Job Responsibility:
Lead day-to-day accounting activities and maintain reliable financial records that support the organization’s operational and reporting needs
Prepare timely financial statements and management reports, ensuring accuracy and clarity for internal stakeholders
Develop, track, and refine budgets and forecasts to help leadership evaluate financial performance and plan effectively
Monitor cash position and produce short- and long-term cash flow projections to support ongoing fiscal stability
Coordinate audit preparation by organizing supporting records, responding to requests, and helping ensure compliance with financial standards
Oversee document management processes, including the review, control, and scanning of financial records for accessibility and retention
Utilize QuickBooks to manage accounting transactions, reporting functions, and financial data integrity
Partner with organizational leaders to review spending trends, monitor budget activity, and recommend corrective actions when needed
Requirements:
Proven experience serving in a Controller or senior-level accounting leadership role
Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks and its use in financial management and reporting
Demonstrated ability to build budgets, monitor financial performance, and prepare forecasts
Experience creating and analyzing cash flow reports and forward-looking cash projections
Background supporting financial audits and preparing documentation for audit review
Solid understanding of financial reporting principles and accurate recordkeeping practices
Experience managing document control or financial file organization in a structured environment
