We are looking for an experienced Controller to manage and oversee essential accounting operations for a leading organization in Kansas City, Missouri. This role is pivotal within the Finance team and involves collaborating with senior leadership to ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and operational excellence. The Controller will provide strategic direction and hands-on leadership across key accounting functions, including payroll, accounts payable, and cash management.
Job Responsibility:
Supervise daily accounting operations, including payroll, accounts payable, and cash receipts, ensuring accuracy and efficiency
Lead and mentor managers overseeing payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions
Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and established accounting procedures
Coordinate treasury activities such as cash management, liquidity planning, and financial risk mitigation
Manage the monthly financial close process, reviewing reconciliations and preparing supporting documentation
Prepare internal financial reports and operational metrics to support informed decision-making
Collaborate with auditors and tax consultants by providing required schedules and documentation
Identify opportunities to enhance accounting processes, improving efficiency and strengthening controls
Foster cross-functional collaboration with departments such as IT, Operations, and senior leadership to support organizational goals
Provide strategic guidance on financial practices and policies to maintain the firm's financial integrity
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required
A minimum of 5–7 years of accounting experience, with attention to detail, preferably within a law firm or services environment requiring a high level of accuracy
Proven experience managing accounting staff and leading payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices specific to legal or services firms where precision is essential
Proficiency in financial systems, including experience with Elite 3E and Chrome River, is a plus
Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated leadership abilities with a collaborative and service-oriented approach
