Job Description:

We’re working with an established and growing client in the construction industry to find a Controller who will oversee their financial operations and play a critical role in their continued success.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead financial planning initiatives, including budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Manage processes related to percentage of completion, WIP (Work-In-Progress), and job costing analysis
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, tax laws, and company policies
  • Oversee preparation for audits and manage reporting to stakeholders
  • Oversee the utilization of accounting systems, including construction-specific ERP platforms, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Mentor and coach accounting staff, building a collaborative and efficient team environment
  • Develop internal controls to safeguard financial assets and ensure regulatory adherence
  • Partner with leadership and project managers to provide insights and recommendations that improve profitability and operational decisions

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar field
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting leadership roles, preferably within the construction or project-based industry
  • Proficiency in job cost accounting, percentage of completion method, and WIP reporting
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting systems (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, QuickBooks) and Excel
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop accounting teams
  • Strong communication skills to effectively engage with leadership, project teams, vendors, and external stakeholders

Nice to have:

  • Experience in construction payroll and subcontractor payment processes
  • Familiarity with construction contracts and bank draws
  • Track record of implementing process improvements to streamline financial operations
