A well-established, privately held specialty contractor in the greater Carroll/Frederick County market is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead all accounting and financial operations. This is a high-visibility role reporting directly to ownership, with responsibility for driving accurate financial reporting, job costing oversight, and operational decision support.
Job Responsibility
Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations including month-end close, financial statement preparation, and cash management
Lead job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition for ongoing projects
Partner with operations to provide insight into project profitability, cost tracking, and margin improvement
Strengthen internal controls, streamline processes, and improve reporting visibility across the business
Manage AP/AR, payroll, and banking relationships while ensuring compliance with GAAP and tax requirements
Prepare budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis to support strategic planning
Serve as the primary liaison with external CPA firm for year-end review/tax work
Requirements
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within construction or project-based environments
Strong expertise in job costing, WIP schedules, and contract revenue recognition
Experience in a small to mid-sized company where wearing multiple hats is required
Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and advanced Excel skills
Proven ability to improve processes and implement scalable accounting practices
