Job Description:

Robert Half client is looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Controller/CFO to lead the financial operations of a construction company based in Arlington, Texas. This role involves overseeing accounting functions, managing financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills, a sharp analytical mindset, and a deep understanding of construction-specific financial practices.

Job Responsibility:

  • Oversee all aspects of accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and job cost accounting
  • Prepare and deliver accurate financial statements, such as profit-and-loss reports, balance sheets, and cash flow analyses
  • Ensure strict compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and legal requirements specific to the construction industry
  • Conduct month-end and year-end closings, ensuring accurate allocations for job costs and project performance metrics
  • Collaborate with project teams to monitor job cost performance, analyze financial variances, and recommend actionable improvements
  • Develop and refine budgets and financial forecasts in alignment with the company's strategic goals
  • Improve reporting systems and data analysis processes to enhance operational efficiency and decision-making
  • Oversee compliance reporting, audits, and ensure financial transparency for stakeholders
  • Mentor and train finance staff at the entry level to build a stronger, more capable accounting team
  • Identify financial risks, implement mitigation strategies, and establish robust internal controls

Requirements:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • advanced certifications are a plus
  • A minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in the construction industry
  • Proficiency in accounting software, advanced Microsoft Excel skills, and familiarity with construction-specific platforms
  • Comprehensive knowledge of job cost accounting, financial reporting, and compliance standards tailored to construction
  • Proven leadership experience, including managing teams and mentoring less experienced staff
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to assess project financial performance and company metrics
