The Laser Communication Group specializes in designing, prototyping, and testing laser communication systems. We develop solutions to mitigate signal fluctuations caused by vibration, turbulence, and wavefront distortions, with a focus on secure, high-bandwidth communication links. Our key projects include laser communication terminals for ground, air, space, and testing terminals for interoperability with standards. We are seeking a short-term control system developer to join our team in testing Pointing, Acquisition, and Tracking (PAT) systems. This role will involve the designing of testbeds to fully assess PAT systems, developing code to collect data, and analyzing the data.
Job Responsibility:
Ability to create / design testbeds to assess PAT systems
Develop telemetry and data collection software
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate designs for testing
Test and validate PAT Systems with hardware-in-the-loop testing
Troubleshoot and resolve issues within PAT systems

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field)
Proficiency in C++ development, with experience in software development for embedded systems
Proficiency in Matlab and other analysis tools
Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective teamwork and collaboration
Familiarity with camera interfaces (such as Digital Focal Plan Array and/or a sensors unlimited camera) and image processing techniques
Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git
Experience with Linux or other embedded operating systems

Strong understanding of control theory (e.g., PID control, state-space analysis, feedback loops)
Knowledge of analog electronics and mixed-signal design
