Job Description

We are looking for a skilled Contracts Attorney to join our team on a contract basis in Waterbury, Connecticut. This position involves providing legal counsel to municipal departments, boards, and commissions while handling a wide range of legal tasks. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in drafting and negotiating contracts, along with a strong ability to conduct thorough legal research and prepare well-founded legal opinions.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide legal advice and representation for municipal departments, boards, and commissions, including attending meetings and public hearings as required
  • Draft, review, and analyze contracts, grants, leases, and other legal agreements to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with contractors, vendors, and other parties to secure favorable outcomes
  • Conduct detailed reviews of grant applications, contracts, and associated documentation for accuracy and adherence to legal requirements
  • Ensure legal documents align with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and municipal codes
  • Prepare and present comprehensive legal opinions based on thorough research and analysis of statutes, case law, and municipal codes
  • Create and evaluate various legal documents to support the municipality's operations
  • Maintain updated knowledge of government contracts, procurement procedures, and municipal regulations
  • Carry out additional legal duties as assigned to support the organization’s needs

Requirements

  • Must hold a valid license to practice law
  • Proven experience in civil litigation and contract law
  • Strong skills in drafting motions, briefs, and discovery documents
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and interpret contracts, grants, and leases
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities
  • Ability to perform legal research and provide sound legal opinions

  • Advise on procurement contracts with a focus on solar energy, technology OEM, and white label agreements, primarily representing the reseller or buyer
  • Advise on distributor agreements in the energy sector, with particular emphasis on antitrust matters arising from distributor relationships, primarily representing the seller
  • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations -- including those related to energy, federal procurement, and antitrust -- in the context of solar energy for utility, commercial, and residential products and services
  • Assume full professional responsibility for responding to both internal and external inquiries with minimal supervision
  • Participate in organizational risk reviews, providing useful and detailed input on legal and commercial risks
