Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and capable Defence Contract Manager to provide commercial, procurement and contract management services in support of Defence Maritime sustainment programs. This role focuses on optimising contract frameworks, strengthening governance and assurance activities, managing supplier performance and improving commercial processes across the enterprise. You will be responsible for leading development of commercial documentation, coordinating procurement activities, reviewing contract performance and supporting knowledge transfer to Commonwealth personnel.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide procurement support
  • including commercial advice, contract interpretation, tender development and evaluation
  • Develop high quality commercial documentation
  • including: Business Cases, Commercial Strategies, Work Plans, Formal Reports and Correspondence
  • Manage the optimisation of contract frameworks
  • including refinement of plans, processes, procedures, governance and assurance activities
  • Lead development and refinement of Annual Work Plans and Five‑Year Work Plans
  • Review and provide feedback on: Contract Management Plans, Commercial Correspondence, Contract Management Systems and Tools
  • Support contract performance management
  • Conduct commercial governance and assurance activities,ensuring alignment with Defence policies and procurement frameworks
  • Maintain strong commercial relationship management, including issue escalation, dispute resolution and problem identification
  • Develop, review, negotiate and coordinate Deed / Contract Change Proposals
  • including commercial analysis and impact assessments
  • Support commercial and contract knowledge transfer to Commonwealth employees to uplift internal capability

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Law (or related discipline)
  • Demonstrated experience in contract management, commercial services or procurement within Defence, government or complex industry environments
  • Strong understanding of contract performance management, supplier engagement and commercial frameworks
  • Knowledge of Defence procurement policies, contracting principles and commercial assurance processes
  • Demonstrated experience in the ASDEFCON frameworks
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret contract terms and manage commercial risks
  • Required Security Clearance Level: Negative Vetting One (NV1)
