Job Description:

Established law firm is seeking a skilled Contract Attorney with expertise in civil litigation to join a small dynamic law firm based in Palo Alto, California. This Contract Attorney roles offers an opportunity to handle complex legal matters involving trust and estate disputes. This is a hybrid position, requiring occasional on-site work. The ideal candidate will bring a strong civil litigation background, excellent research and writing skills, and an ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Handle all phases of trust and estate litigation, including pleadings, discovery, motions, negotiations, and trial preparation
  • Advise clients on estate planning strategies and potential litigation risks associated with trusts and wills
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other legal research tools to support case strategies
  • Draft clear and persuasive legal documents such as complaints, motions, briefs, settlement agreements, and memoranda
  • Manage case files meticulously, ensuring compliance with procedural rules and deadlines
  • Engage in negotiations with opposing counsel to resolve disputes amicably or prepare cases for trial if necessary
  • Collaborate with experts in areas such as forensic accounting or valuation when evaluating estate assets or fiduciary conduct
  • Maintain strong client communication by providing updates on case progress and legal options

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active state bar membership
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in litigation
  • Prior experience with trust and estate litigation is required
  • Proficiency in legal research tools like Westlaw and LexisNexis, with the ability to conduct detailed and accurate research
  • Strong drafting skills, capable of producing clear and persuasive legal documents
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple cases efficiently and meet strict deadlines
