Established law firm is seeking a skilled Contract Attorney with expertise in civil litigation to join a small dynamic law firm based in Palo Alto, California. This Contract Attorney roles offers an opportunity to handle complex legal matters involving trust and estate disputes. This is a hybrid position, requiring occasional on-site work. The ideal candidate will bring a strong civil litigation background, excellent research and writing skills, and an ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Job Responsibility:
Handle all phases of trust and estate litigation, including pleadings, discovery, motions, negotiations, and trial preparation
Advise clients on estate planning strategies and potential litigation risks associated with trusts and wills
Conduct comprehensive legal research using Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other legal research tools to support case strategies
Draft clear and persuasive legal documents such as complaints, motions, briefs, settlement agreements, and memoranda
Manage case files meticulously, ensuring compliance with procedural rules and deadlines
Engage in negotiations with opposing counsel to resolve disputes amicably or prepare cases for trial if necessary
Collaborate with experts in areas such as forensic accounting or valuation when evaluating estate assets or fiduciary conduct
Maintain strong client communication by providing updates on case progress and legal options
Requirements:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active state bar membership
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in litigation
Prior experience with trust and estate litigation is required
Proficiency in legal research tools like Westlaw and LexisNexis, with the ability to conduct detailed and accurate research
Strong drafting skills, capable of producing clear and persuasive legal documents
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple cases efficiently and meet strict deadlines
