Job Description:

Contract Android Engineer – Central Government Project (Inside IR35). I’m looking for an experienced Android Engineer to support a high-profile Central Government programme on an initial 3-month contract. This role offers the chance to work on a large-scale digital service that has real impact across the UK. Key Details: Contract Length: 3 months; Day Rate: Up to £500 per day; IR35 Status: Inside IR35; Location: UK-based, fully remote; Start Date: Immediate / ASAP; Current SC is a big plus.

Job Responsibility:

  • Developing and enhancing a native Android application
  • Delivering secure, accessible, and user-centric digital services in line with public sector standards

Requirements:

  • Strong commercial experience developing native Android applications using Kotlin (and/or Java)
  • Proven Central Government project experience (essential)
  • Good understanding of Government Digital Service (GDS) principles and accessibility standards
  • Experience working in agile environments (Scrum/Kanban)
  • Knowledge of secure development practices and handling sensitive data

Nice to have:

  • Experience with modern Android architecture (e.g., MVVM, Clean Architecture)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
  • Performance optimisation and app scalability experience
  • Experience working on high-traffic or mission-critical applications
