Job Description

A respected government entity in Centralia is seeking a Contract Accountant to support their finance team during a transitional period. This role is ideal for someone with public sector or fund accounting experience who can step in quickly and support critical accounting functions.

Job Responsibility

  • Support month-end and year-end close, including journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger and fund accounts in accordance with government accounting standards
  • Assist with budget tracking, grant accounting, and expenditure monitoring
  • Prepare financial reports and support internal and external audit requests
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and governmental accounting standards (GASB)
  • Review and analyze variances across funds, departments, and programs
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure accurate financial reporting

Requirements

  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within government, municipality, or nonprofit settings
  • Knowledge of fund accounting and GASB standards strongly preferred
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems
  • Strong Excel skills (reconciliations, data analysis, reporting)
  • High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a structured environment
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
