An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Rheumatologist to join a well-established and expanding Rheumatology service in Scotland. This permanent consultant post offers the opportunity to work within a highly supportive multidisciplinary team while contributing to the continued development of Rheumatology services alongside General Medicine. The department has a strong reputation for delivering high-quality patient care, education, research and service innovation, with excellent opportunities to develop specialist interests. The successful candidate will join an experienced team of consultants, specialist nurses and allied health professionals delivering comprehensive outpatient and inpatient Rheumatology services across the region.
Job Responsibility
Deliver a comprehensive Consultant Rheumatology service across the region
Provide high-quality outpatient and inpatient Rheumatology care
Participate in General Internal Medicine and on-call commitments as agreed within the job plan
Diagnose and manage the full spectrum of inflammatory and autoimmune rheumatic diseases
Lead multidisciplinary management alongside specialist nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and podiatrists
Contribute to biologic therapies, osteoporosis services and musculoskeletal ultrasound where appropriate
Participate in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement initiatives
Support the continued development and expansion of Rheumatology services
Supervise junior medical staff and contribute to departmental leadership
Participate in annual appraisal, job planning and Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Requirements
Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Rheumatology (or within six months of CCT)
Appropriate Royal College Membership
Broad clinical experience in Rheumatology
Commitment to delivering high-quality patient-centred care
Ability to manage patients independently
Experience in multidisciplinary working
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to clinical governance, audit and service improvement
Ability to teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
Nice to have
Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
Postgraduate qualification in Medical Education
Management and leadership experience
Evidence of research activity and peer-reviewed publications
Experience implementing service improvements
Advanced teaching qualifications
Evidence of completed audit leading to service improvement
