An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Rheumatologist to join a supportive and forward-thinking Rheumatology service in Yorkshire and the Humber. This substantive post offers the chance to work within a consultant-led department delivering high-quality outpatient and inpatient rheumatology care with excellent multidisciplinary support. The successful candidate will join an established team of consultants, specialist nurses, trainees, therapists, and administrative staff. This role offers a strong work-life balance, with no mandatory General Internal Medicine commitments and no routine on-call duties, alongside opportunities to develop subspecialty interests, pursue education, improve services, and conduct research.
Job Responsibility:
Provide comprehensive Consultant-led Rheumatology services for outpatients and inpatients
Assess, diagnose, and manage a broad range of rheumatological disorders, including inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue disease, vasculitis, osteoporosis, and musculoskeletal conditions
Deliver new patient clinics, follow-up clinics, urgent inflammatory arthritis pathways, and giant cell arteritis services
Review ward referrals and provide specialist inpatient consultation
Work collaboratively with specialist nurses to manage DMARDs and biologics, monitor pathways, and provide patient education
Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and regional case discussions
Supervise and support junior doctors, foundation trainees, and speciality trainees
Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including grand rounds and training sessions
Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and service development
Participate in research projects and innovation initiatives where appropriate
Provide cover for consultant colleagues during periods of annual or study leave
Requirements:
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Rheumatology, or within 6 months of CCT
CESR applicants are welcome where eligible
Broad experience in Rheumatology at Consultant or senior trainee level
Ability to independently manage general Rheumatology cases
Experience delivering outpatient and inpatient Rheumatology care
Minimum 1 year NHS experience
Evidence of clinical audit and implementation of service improvements
Understanding of governance and quality standards
Experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
Strong teamwork and organisational skills
Ability to contribute to leadership and service development
Nice to have:
Higher specialist qualification or equivalent
Subspecialty interest, such as connective tissue disease or inflammatory arthritis
