Job Description:

Consultant Radiologist (Breast/Chest/Cardiac/Paeds). We are looking for General Radiologists, but should you have an interest in either Interventional Radiology, Breast, Chest & Cardiac or Paediatrics we would be very interested in hearing from you. The posts are full-time, but we would consider part time applicants. The Radiology department is well-equipped, having two 128 slice Siemens CT scanners, two 1.5T Siemens MRI scanners, digital screening rooms and updated US machines. We also have a recently installed SPECT CT and new dual-source Cardiac CT scanner. We also have CT and MRI vans/static scanners for additional workload at our Community Diagnostic Centre in West Swindon. The Breast Centre is the base for the Wiltshire Breast Screening Service for Swindon, North and West Wiltshire. We screen nearly 100,000 ladies over a three-year cycle. There are two screening vans and a static facility at the Great Western Hospital. The Breast Centre also provides a symptomatic service for Swindon and Wiltshire. The department has Hologic mammography units with tomosynthesis. We are setting up a contrast enhanced mammography (CEM) service shortly. Localisations are usually done with Magseed. The Radiologists are a happy, functional and hard-working team. It is important to note that there is a private practice which works as a co-operative. Our on-call system now has a consultant presence from 8am-8pm Monday to Friday, and for 4 hours Saturday and Sunday. Consultants remain on-call for a further 4 hours on Saturday and Sunday. Outside of these hours we are supported by an outsourced reporting company. All medical staff in each Directorate are managerially accountable through their Lead Clinician to the Associate Medical Director, who has overall responsibility for the services within the Directorate. Consultants are key members of the Directorate team and are accountable and responsible for leading changes to service that will improve the patient experience. We are currently involved in the setting up of a Community Diagnostic Centre and the West of England Imaging Network.
