An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Haringey East Core Team in Greater London. This substantive consultant post has become available following service redesign and investment linked to community mental health transformation. The successful candidate will join an established multidisciplinary service and provide joint clinical leadership alongside two Consultant colleagues, supporting delivery of high-quality community psychiatry care to adults with complex mental health needs. This role is ideal for a consultant seeking leadership responsibility, community psychiatry experience, and the chance to shape innovative, modern mental health pathways.
Job Responsibility:
Assess newly referred patients and formulate evidence-based treatment plans
Provide ongoing medical reviews for service users on caseloads
Monitor mental, physical, and psychological well-being
Review risk, needs, safeguarding, and care planning
Assess treatment response, prescribe medication, adjust dosage, and manage side effects
Manage urgent community presentations and emergencies, including home visits
Act as a Responsible Clinician (RC) for patients subject to Community Treatment Orders (CTO)
Ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act (MHA) and Mental Capacity Act (MCA)
Provide clinical and professional leadership within the East Core Team
Contribute to service performance, pathway development, and operational priorities
Participate in governance, quality improvement, and management processes
Support the transformation of community mental health services
Work collaboratively with nurses, psychologists, therapists, social workers, and support staff
Participate in weekly MDT meetings and locality service planning
Promote integrated, recovery-focused community care
Supervise junior doctors and other healthcare professionals
Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
Participate in clinical audit, research, and service evaluation
Maintain accurate electronic records and outcome monitoring
Complete appraisal, CPD, and mandatory training
Participate in the North Sector Consultant Psychiatrist on-call rota (1:32)
Requirements:
MBBS or equivalent qualification
Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
Minimum 1 year NHS experience
GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months
Approved Clinician status (or achievable within 3 months)
Section 12 Approval (or achievable within 3 months)
Excellent clinical knowledge in Psychiatry
Strong communication and leadership skills
Ability to manage complexity and uncertainty
Ability to teach and supervise staff
Basic IT skills, including electronic patient records
Nice to have:
Higher qualification in education/research/management

Additional clinical qualification
Broad NHS or equivalent specialist experience
