We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist to join a progressive and community-focused Mental Health and Addiction Service on the East Coast of New Zealand. Job Responsibility:
Deliver comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and management for patients within the community and inpatient settings
Provide clinical leadership and expertise to the multidisciplinary team, including registrars, nurses, psychologists, and social workers
Participate in the on-call rota, supported by an experienced team of clinicians and cultural advisors
Contribute to service development, with a focus on co-design and addressing health inequalities for M?ori and underserved populations
Collaborate closely with primary care and community partners to ensure continuity of care and effective treatment pathways
Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, contributing to their professional development
Engage in clinical governance, audit, and research activities to support continuous service improvement
Uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (Treaty of Waitangi) in all aspects of clinical practice and service delivery
Requirements:
Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent international qualification
Eligible for vocational registration in Psychiatry with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
Valid driver’s licence for New Zealand
Broad clinical experience across General Adult and/or Older Adult Psychiatry
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centred, and culturally safe care
Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
Understanding of the principles of clinical governance, quality improvement, and patient safety
Nice to have:
Experience working in community psychiatry or rural mental health settings
Interest in service development, teaching, or research
Familiarity with M?ori health frameworks and culturally responsive practice
