An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a progressive and community-focused mental health service in New Zealand. This role offers the chance to work within an innovative model of care that places strong emphasis on wh?nau-centred approaches, cultural understanding, and equitable healthcare delivery. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of modern mental health services, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support individuals and families across the community.
Job Responsibility:
Provide specialist psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and management for patients across General Adult and/or Older Persons Mental Health services
Deliver care within a community-focused, wh?nau-centred model, incorporating culturally appropriate approaches to mental health
Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including allied health professionals and community partners
Contribute to service development, including designing and implementing new models of care
Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
Support equitable healthcare delivery, with a focus on improving outcomes for diverse populations
Engage with community stakeholders and support the co-design of care pathways
Provide clinical leadership and contribute to team development and service planning
Participate in teaching and supervision where required
Requirements:
Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent
Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) or eligibility for vocational registration in Psychiatry
Minimum of 3 years' experience in Psychiatry at a specialist level or equivalent
Broad clinical experience in General Adult Psychiatry and/or Mental Health Services for Older People
Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills in psychiatry
Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and community-based teams
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage complex and varied caseloads
Resilience and ability to work in dynamic and evolving service environments
Commitment to culturally safe practice and understanding of diverse populations
Awareness of and commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Commitment to equity, inclusivity, and patient-centred care
Cultural literacy and willingness to work within kaupapa M?ori frameworks
Collaborative, flexible, and positive approach to teamwork
