The inpatient services at Roseberry Park Hospital are provided within four acute commissioned admissions units, in a total of 66 beds distributed in four single sex wards ( 2 male and 2 female wards). The inpatient services, led by a team of consultant psychiatrists, are supported by Specialty Doctors and Resident Doctors. There is existing additional support from one Nurse Consultant who is an approved clinician to adult services in the Roseberry Park Hospital. The current ward arrangements are two 14-18 bedded units for South Tees (Middlesbrough, and Redcar & Cleveland). There are two 14-18 bedded units for North of Tees areas (Stockton and Hartlepool areas). There may be out of area patients on any of the wards depending on requirements. We operate an acclaimed and widely recognised Purposeful Inpatient Admissions Process (PIPA), which allows for daily consultant led inpatient services, with high quality and performance. This process has allowed us to currently operate with fewer than 50 bed occupancy in line the NHS 10-year plan, and we are currently operating in 3 wards with under 50 patients at any point in time. The Tees Urgent Care comprises of Liaison Psychiatry, Crisis Assessment and Home Treatment Services and a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit. Roseberry Park Hospital also has a 24-hour crisis assessment suite on site, which is supported by the existing Crisis and Inpatient Medical Staffing.
Job Responsibility:
Allocated new admissions as per rota
Lead the assessment, formulation and treatment within the PIPA model
Supported by Speciality Doctors and Specialist Registrars as well as Resident Doctors under supervision
Anticipated average number of inpatients involved at any point in time is 10-14 with RC responsibilities retained by Consultant Psychiatrist
Work closely with the consultant psychiatrists in Urgent care services
The Specialty Doctor will help with Tribunal reports and attending hearings as needed but the Consultant retains ultimate responsibility for matters for which ACs are responsible
Requirements:
MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
Excellent knowledge in specialty
Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
Reflects on own performance and behaviour, seeking and acting on feedback
Able to influence and persuade to improve services
Able to take on leadership role in multidisciplinary team
Knowledge of structure and management of the NHS and the Trust
