An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Psychiatrist in Home Treatment & Crisis Response Services to join a progressive and well-established Mental Health service in Northern Ireland. This Consultant post offers the opportunity to provide senior clinical leadership within a dynamic Home Treatment and Crisis Response pathway, delivering high-quality community-based psychiatric care as an alternative to hospital admission while supporting patients experiencing acute mental health crises. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, community mental health services, inpatient psychiatry teams, liaison psychiatry, and crisis services to ensure the delivery of safe, responsive, and patient-centred care across acute mental health pathways.
Job Responsibility
Provide consultant-led psychiatric assessment and treatment within Home Treatment services
Deliver crisis intervention and acute mental health management
Support alternatives to inpatient psychiatric admission
Provide clinical leadership within multidisciplinary crisis teams
Participate in comprehensive risk assessments and crisis planning
Develop and oversee patient care plans
Work collaboratively with inpatient, liaison, and CMHT services
Support Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity assessments
Participate in multidisciplinary reviews and governance meetings
Supervise junior doctors and multidisciplinary staff
Contribute to audit, quality improvement, and service development initiatives
Participate in the senior consultant on-call rotas
Support teaching, training, and educational supervision activities
Requirements
Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
MRCPsych or recognised equivalent qualification
Eligible for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT
Approved Clinician / Part II approval status or eligibility
Minimum 1 year NHS experience
Excellent clinical skills in General Adult Psychiatry
Experience managing acute and complex psychiatric presentations
Strong multidisciplinary team working ability
Understanding of Clinical Governance and risk management
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Ability to supervise and support junior medical staff

Research and publication experience
