An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Physician with a special interest in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics to join a progressive healthcare service in New Zealand. This role is ideal for an experienced Geriatrician looking to make a meaningful impact in elderly care, working within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering comprehensive geriatric services, supporting acute and rehabilitation care, and contributing to the development of innovative models for healthy ageing.
Job Responsibility:
Provide specialist geriatric and internal medicine services, including inpatient consultative support across medical and surgical teams
Conduct comprehensive geriatric assessments, including frailty, cognitive, and capacity evaluations, particularly for complex and pre-operative patients
Support orthopaedic and surgical services with perioperative geriatric care and risk assessment
Oversee and contribute to rehabilitation services to ensure optimal patient recovery and functional outcomes
Provide clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary team, including collaboration with allied health professionals and community services
Lead and support healthy ageing initiatives, contributing to service development and strategic planning
Participate in clinical audit, governance, and quality improvement activities
Deliver teaching and supervision to junior medical staff and allied health professionals
Contribute to the ongoing development and shaping of geriatric services within the region
Requirements:
Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
Specialist qualification in Internal Medicine and/or Geriatrics (or equivalent)
Eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
Proven experience in Geriatric Medicine, including management of complex and frail elderly patients
Experience providing consultative services across medical and surgical specialities
Experience in rehabilitation and multidisciplinary care settings
Demonstrated ability to manage complex clinical cases independently
Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills in geriatric care
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
Leadership capability with a collaborative approach
