Job Description:

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Temporary Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine to join a leading teaching hospital service in Ireland. This is a Consultant-led role within a large multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across the region. This position offers the opportunity to lead and shape geriatric services while contributing to education, governance, and service development within a progressive healthcare environment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Deliver comprehensive Consultant-led Geriatric Medicine services
  • Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and management of older patients
  • Lead inpatient and outpatient geriatric services
  • Participate in the Consultant on-call rota
  • Provide clinical leadership in complex frailty management and rehabilitation pathways
  • Lead and support a multidisciplinary team including medical, nursing and allied health professionals
  • Engage collaboratively with local and regional service providers
  • Contribute to service planning, pathway development and quality improvement initiatives
  • Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education
  • Engage in audit, clinical governance and research activities
  • Apply evidence-based clinical decision-making in all aspects of practice

Requirements:

  • Registered as a Specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland (IMC Specialist Registration)
  • Proven Consultant-level experience in Geriatric Medicine
  • Eligible to work in Ireland
  • Excellent English communication skills
  • Strong leadership, organisational and team-management capabilities
  • Evidence-based clinical practice skills
  • Police Clearance
  • Must not have worked in Ireland in the past 36 months
  • Must not have applied for any HSE position within the past 24 months

Nice to have:

A special interest in Stroke Medicine is desirable but not essential
