An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to join a well-established surgical service in New Zealand. This role is ideal for a skilled orthopaedic surgeon with broad experience in general orthopaedics and trauma, looking to contribute to a diverse and dynamic clinical environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care while supporting the development of subspecialty services within the department.
Job Responsibility:
Provide comprehensive orthopaedic services, including elective and acute trauma care
Perform a wide range of orthopaedic surgical procedures, including joint arthroplasty and general orthopaedic interventions
Manage outpatient clinics, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for orthopaedic patients
Participate in acute on-call services and trauma management
Contribute to subspecialty service development, aligning with departmental needs (e.g., arthroplasty, paediatrics, sports surgery)
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated, patient-centred care
Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
Support teaching, training, and supervision of junior medical staff and allied health professionals
Engage in service planning and innovation to enhance orthopaedic care delivery
Requirements:
Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
Eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) or eligibility for vocational/temporary registration
Demonstrated clinical expertise in managing a wide range of orthopaedic conditions
Experience in both elective orthopaedics and acute trauma care
Ability to work independently and manage complex surgical cases
Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
Strong surgical and clinical decision-making skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
Leadership capability and commitment to service development
Commitment to delivering culturally safe and equitable healthcare
Willingness to engage with and develop understanding of M?ori health perspectives, including te ao M?ori, tikanga, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles
