Job Description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Diagnostic Neuroradiologist to join a large, high-performing imaging department in the West Midlands. This is a major tertiary neurosciences and trauma centre, serving a population of approximately 1.5 million, with a rapidly expanding neuroimaging service driven by: Centralised acute stroke pathways; Major trauma activity; Increasing MRI and CT demand. Subspecialty interests are welcomed and can be incorporated into the service.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide specialist diagnostic neuroradiology reporting, including: MRI brain and spine, CT neuroimaging, CT angiography (CTA), particularly for stroke
  • Deliver acute neuroradiology cover, including stroke imaging
  • Participate in the neuroradiology on-call rota (approx. 1:13)
  • Contribute to a high-volume service with ~63,000 neuro CT & MRI studies annually
  • Support imaging across: Acute hospital site, Additional diagnostic centres (including Community Diagnostic Centres)
  • Work flexibly across sites as required by the service
  • Participate in specialist MDT meetings, including: Neurosurgery, Neurology, Stroke MDTs
  • Provide expert imaging advice to clinical teams and referring clinicians
  • Contribute to general radiology reporting, including: Cross-sectional imaging, Selected plain film reporting (as required)
  • Deliver safe, high-quality diagnostic neuroradiology services
  • Maintain compliance with: Clinical governance, Risk management frameworks
  • Supervise and support: Radiology trainees and junior doctors
  • Participate in: Clinical audit and quality improvement, Departmental and MDT meetings
  • Contribute to: Service development and pathway optimisation
  • Maintain effective communication with: Clinical teams, Primary care and external stakeholders
  • Participate in: Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, Specialist registrar training programmes
  • Opportunities to: Engage in research and academic collaborations, Contribute to innovation in neuroimaging services

Requirements:

  • Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent)
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Clinical Radiology (or within 6 months via CCT / CESR)
  • Minimum 1 year NHS experience
  • Experience in: Neuro CT and MRI reporting, Acute neuroradiology
  • Ability to independently report the full scope of neuroimaging
  • Strong diagnostic and analytical skills in neuroradiology
  • Ability to: Lead and manage clinical workload, work effectively within MDT environments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to supervise, mentor, and support trainees
  • Experience in: Clinical audit and governance, Evidence-based practice
  • Commitment to: Continuous quality improvement, CPD and revalidation
  • Professional, collaborative, and adaptable approach
