Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Medical Oncologist to join a developing oncology service in the East of England as the Lead Medical Oncology Consultant for Breast and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) cancers. This is a key consultant post focused on delivering high-quality systemic anti-cancer therapy, leading multidisciplinary care for these tumour groups, and helping shape the continued growth of the oncology service. The successful candidate will take the lead on systemic treatment for breast cancer and play a major role in managing and developing the HPB oncology pathway.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead the Medical Oncology service for Breast and HPB cancers
  • Act as the lead consultant for systemic treatment in breast cancer
  • Provide expert management of patients with breast and hepatobiliary malignancies
  • Work closely with colleagues across the cancer network to deliver a local cancer service for patients with these tumour groups
  • Participate in and lead multidisciplinary team working, including breast, HPB, radiology and oncology/palliative MDTs
  • Provide consultant-led support to the Acute Oncology Service (AOS) and the inpatient oncology ward service
  • Prescribe and oversee systemic anti-cancer therapy, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy, using e-prescribing systems
  • Contribute to clinical trials recruitment, research activity and service expansion
  • Support the ongoing development of clinical protocols, guidelines, governance and quality improvement initiatives
  • Take an active role in teaching, supervision, appraisal, leadership and service development

Requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MRCP Part 1 and Part 2
  • Full GMC registration and licence to practise
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register, or eligibility for entry / within 6 months of CCT or CESR at the time of interview
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for UK CCT in Medical Oncology
  • Wide experience in prescribing chemotherapy, including e-prescribing
  • Experience of Acute Oncology
  • Ability to meet the Specialist Generic Capabilities Framework criteria
  • Strong multidisciplinary working, leadership and communication skills
