An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Stroke Medicine to join a supportive and established stroke service delivering high-quality acute and rehabilitation stroke care. The post holder will work collaboratively with an experienced multidisciplinary team to enhance stroke pathways, improve performance metrics, and deliver patient-centred care across the stroke service.
Job Responsibility:
Deliver evidence-based stroke care across acute and rehabilitation pathways
Provide continuing clinical responsibility for stroke patients, including inpatient and outpatient care
Participate in MDT discussions and coordinate stroke pathway management
Contribute to the development of subspecialty interests aligned with service priorities
Undertake teaching, assessment, and educational supervision of trainees
Provide clinical cover for Consultant colleagues during leave
Participate in audit, CPD, and emergency clinical duties as required
Take part in the Consultant out-of-hours rota
Support improvement of stroke pathways and quality metrics, including SSNAP performance
Contribute to policy, strategy, and service development as part of the divisional team
Work collaboratively with clinical and operational colleagues across the organisation
Participate in cost-effective resource utilisation and service planning
Supervise junior medical staff and support departmental education programmes
Engage in incident review, risk management, and governance activities
Participate in clinical governance programmes and divisional quality strategies
Contribute to clinical audit programmes and the implementation of evidence-based practice
Support risk management processes and patient safety initiatives
Encourage research, service innovation, and workforce development
Requirements:
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
Clinical training and experience equivalent to UK CCT level
Expertise in Stroke Medicine
Ability to take independent responsibility for stroke patient care
Ability to teach clinical skills to trainees and multidisciplinary teams
Demonstrated leadership within MDT environments
Publications in peer-reviewed journals
Strong leadership and communication skills
Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
Commitment to quality improvement, clinical governance, and service development
