An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine to join a well-established and progressive respiratory department in Greater London. This post is available on a full-time or part-time basis. It offers the chance to join a friendly, supportive consultant team with strong subspecialty services, excellent junior feedback, and opportunities to develop specialist interests. The department currently has seven consultants and is looking to recruit an additional consultant to support service expansion and ongoing development. The team has established expertise in severe asthma, ILD, pleural disease, bronchoscopy/EBUS, medical thoracoscopy, TB, sleep medicine and NIV, with strong research links and a well-developed MDT structure.
Job Responsibility
Provide direct clinical care across the Respiratory Medicine service, contributing to diagnosis, investigation, treatment and ongoing management of respiratory patients
Share the consultant workload equally within the department and provide comprehensive senior clinical cover
Support general respiratory services, the lung cancer service, and the pleural service
Participate in outpatient clinics, bronchoscopy and pleural sessions, inpatient ward cover, MDT meetings and in-reach activity
Work closely with consultant colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver a high-quality, patient-centred respiratory service
Provide prompt specialist advice for patients under other specialities when required
Take continuing responsibility for patients under their care, including safe handover and ongoing management
Contribute to clinical governance, audit, education, research and service development
Participate in the training and supervision of junior medical staff and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
Support recruitment, mentoring, appraisal and development of multidisciplinary team members
Requirements
Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCT) by the time of taking up the post, or accreditation for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register
Full GMC registration
Experience in providing direct clinical care
Active participation in clinical audit
Experience in developing effective and collaborative working relationships
Strong clinical skills in the management and treatment of patients admitted under the speciality
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and manage competing demands in a busy acute environment
Medical and non-medical undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience
Knowledge of the NHS Constitution, GMC professional standards, and the wider Trust / NHS environment
Evidence of active participation in leadership and management activities
Evidence of research activity and willingness to continue contributing to research
Flexibility to meet the needs of the team, service and organisation
Nice to have
Experience of leading change or innovation within a multidisciplinary team
Evidence of improving patient and staff experience
Demonstration of Trust values at an exemplary level
