An exciting opportunity is available for a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine to lead the community-based neuro-rehabilitation services in the South West. This post has been developed through an integrated approach to rehabilitation across acute and community services, serving a diverse population across Devon and Cornwall. The post-holder will play a central role in the development and delivery of high-quality, person-centred neuro-rehabilitation services, while also contributing to regional specialist pathways, such as spinal rehabilitation and intrathecal baclofen therapy.
Job Responsibility:
Clinical leadership of the multi-professional community neuro-rehabilitation team
Participation in interventional clinics and the intrathecal baclofen pump service
Clinical input into the spinal regional rehabilitation service
May include cover for Level 2a Specialist Rehabilitation Beds and the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit
Active involvement in multidisciplinary team working across acute and community settings
Contribution to service development, audit, and quality improvement
Engagement in medical education, research, and clinical supervision
Requirements:
Complete GMC Registration with a licence to practise
MRCP(UK) or equivalent
Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Rehabilitation Medicine (or within 6 months of CCT/CESR at interview)
Broad-based training and experience in Rehabilitation Medicine
Competence in managing on-call clinical scenarios at a senior level
Experience in working collaboratively with service managers and clinical teams
Understanding of audit, teaching principles, and research methodology
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Ability to motivate and support a multidisciplinary workforce
Commitment to high professional standards, ongoing CPD, and innovation in care
Competency with IT systems and digital communication
Nice to have:
Higher qualifications in Rehabilitation Medicine
Qualification in medical education or teaching
Experience in managing spasticity (e.g. botulinum toxin injection)
Interest or expertise in prosthetics, major trauma, or spinal rehabilitation
Record of peer-reviewed publications or service development achievements
Experience in multi-professional teaching and undergraduate education
Capacity to balance clinical, educational, and leadership roles effectively
Willingness to engage in additional responsibilities at the regional/national level
