We are seeking an experienced and motivated Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Oncology to join a well-established and expanding Head & Neck Cancer service in the East Midlands. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and contribute to a multidisciplinary team providing high-quality, patient-centred care across the full spectrum of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) oncology. This role offers an excellent balance of clinical, surgical, educational, and leadership responsibilities — ideal for either an experienced consultant or a newly qualified specialist seeking professional growth and mentorship within a collaborative and innovative team.
Job Responsibility:
Deliver expert clinical and surgical care to oncology patients, particularly those referred under the 2-Week Wait (2WW) and Head & Neck cancer pathways
Participate actively in Head & Neck, Skin, and Deformity MDTs, contributing to multidisciplinary case management and decision-making
Undertake general OMFS emergency on-call cover (1:5), providing specialist input across a wide range of maxillofacial emergencies
Lead and contribute to departmental initiatives, governance meetings, and service development projects
Perform clinical duties including outpatient clinics, theatre sessions (GA and LA), and oncology case management
Supervise and mentor junior doctors, dental core trainees, and medical students, fostering a strong culture of learning and clinical excellence
Participate in research, audit, and quality improvement projects to support innovation within the service
Engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD), with study leave time and funding available
Collaborate with colleagues across multidisciplinary teams to continuously improve patient outcomes and service delivery
Requirements:
Complete GMC Registration with a licence to practise
Relevant speciality degree qualification in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery or equivalent
Completion of Speciality Training (CST or equivalent) or within 6 months of completion at the time of interview
Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
Proven experience in audit, quality improvement, and teaching
Strong communication and organisational skills, with a team-focused approach
Commitment to collaborative, patient-centred care across oncology and reconstructive pathways
Nice to have:
Higher qualifications (MD, PhD, or equivalent)
Medical Education qualification (preferably at Master’s level)
Experience in curriculum development, leadership, or service innovation
Record of publications or national presentations in oncology or surgical education
Research experience in clinical quality improvement or oncology outcomes
