An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology to join a progressive Women & Children's service in Northern Ireland. Applications are invited from enthusiastic candidates with broad experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology, who can strengthen existing consultant-led services and support future service development. This role is suitable for applicants on the Specialist Register (or within six months of CCT/CESR) with at least 1 year of NHS experience. The post includes inpatient, outpatient, emergency, labour ward, community clinic, and on-call responsibilities. Candidates with expertise in urogynaecology, gynaecological ultrasound scanning, and postmenopausal two-week wait clinics will be particularly well-suited to this opportunity.
Job Responsibility:
Provide high-quality consultant-led antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care
Participate in the labour ward consultant presence to support safe maternity services
Manage high-risk obstetric patients and emergency obstetric presentations
Contribute to the delivery suite daytime cover and the overnight/weekend on-call rota
Support maternity transformation and service improvement programmes
Deliver comprehensive general gynaecology services for inpatients and outpatients
Manage emergency gynaecology presentations and urgent referrals
Run outpatient clinics for new and follow-up patients
Supervise, train, and assess junior doctors and multidisciplinary staff
Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement
Lead or contribute to the redesign of obstetric and gynaecology pathways
Support evidence-based innovation and elective recovery pathways
Undertake appraisal, CPD, and educational supervision roles
Requirements:
Medical degree
Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
MRCOG
Relevant CCT or CESR
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT)
SITM/ASTM Labour Ward or equivalent experience
SITM/ATSM in Urogynaecology or equivalent experience
Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
Broad clinical experience in General Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Ability to independently manage obstetric and gynaecological emergencies
Strong labour ward decision-making skills
Experience in multidisciplinary team working
Evidence of audit and quality improvement activity
Commitment to teaching and service development
Nice to have:
SITM/ATSM in Acute Gynaecology / Early Pregnancy
Intermediate level gynaecological scanning
Hysteroscopy / benign gynaecological surgery experience
