An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Infectious Diseases to join a progressive and expanding Infectious Diseases service in Scotland. This permanent Consultant position is ideal for clinicians with an interest in complex infection pathways, offering the opportunity to shape the future of a growing service that delivers integrated laboratory-to-bedside care. The department is expanding its specialist workforce and welcomes applicants with interests in Microbiology, General Medicine or Acute Medicine, alongside opportunities to develop leadership, research and educational interests. You will join a multidisciplinary team of Infectious Diseases Consultants, Consultant Microbiologists, specialist nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals providing comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and community-based infectious diseases services. Job Responsibility
Deliver a comprehensive Consultant-led Infectious Diseases service across the region
Diagnose and manage a broad range of complex infectious diseases in both inpatient and outpatient settings
Provide specialist advice for blood-borne viruses, tuberculosis, OPAT and general infectious diseases
Participate in laboratory-to-bedside infection management alongside the Microbiology team
Contribute to antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention initiatives
Support multidisciplinary management of complex infection pathways across medical and surgical specialities
Participate in either Microbiology, Acute Medicine on-call commitments, or both, depending on individual interests and agreed job planning
Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development
Supervise junior doctors and support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
Participate in annual appraisal, job planning and Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Requirements
Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Infectious Diseases (or within six months of CCT)
Appropriate Royal College Membership
Broad clinical experience within Infectious Diseases
Ability to provide an independent specialist clinical opinion
Commitment to delivering high-quality patient-centred care
Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to clinical governance, audit and service improvement
Ability to teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate trainees
Willingness to participate in agreed-upon call commitments
Nice to have
Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
Postgraduate qualification in Medical Education
Leadership and management experience
Research publications and evidence of research activity
Experience implementing service improvements
Teaching qualifications
Evidence of completed audit leading to measurable service improvement
Experience in introducing new technologies or innovative clinical pathways
